Rich Internet Applications and Dynamic Database-Driven websites

These terms are often used interchangeably. However, there are some differences. Specifically, not all Rich Internet Applications use a database. In addition, not all Database-Driven websites can be called Rich Internet Applications.

Rich Internet Applications

This term was first introduced by Macromedia in March 2002. This term was defined to refer to "a web experience that is engaging, interactive, and flexible." - from the Forward of "Adobe Flex 3, Training from the Source, by Tapper, Labriola, Boles, and Talbot." This concept can be expanded to refer to applications that run on the web and have many of the interactive features that we see on a desktop computer running Windows or the Mac Operating systems. These features are more engaging, allow you to use your mouse and interact with menus and other features.

This all makes the web application easier to use, more interactive and this helps the user become more productive and involved in your site.
